If you could only hear how freaking loud this frog in my parents’ backyard was croaking… I feel so bad for him! He was clearly trying to get some and another frog was croaking back, but it didn’t really seem to be going anywhere. Perhaps if he hadn’t started talking about his ex so soon…

I guess this mechanical bull was on its way somewhere, but in the meantime it seemed to be enjoying quiet repose in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express.

The other day I saw a repeat of Saturday Night Live from 1997 on E! where the Spice Girls performed. They weren’t really that great live, but at least they sang — and unlike Britney Spears, they weren’t afraid to sing with their own banshee-like voices because the power of 5 buxom British women of various ethnicities and hair colors in various states of undress used to be enough to sell music — SCREW TALENT!
Well, it looks like the founders of the Girl Power movement are going to be making an attempt at a come-back with a reunion tour (but — *drat!* — no new material)! How will they stand up in today’s changed world? I have a few predictions:
* “Baby Spice” will change her name to “Fetus Spice” as a nod to the religious right’s battle to overturn Roe v. Wade. What better way to show people the beauty of an unborn child than to put it in a skimpy Gucci number and make it sing “zig-a-zig-ah”?
* “Scary Spice” will change her name to “Successful Black Businesswoman Spice” because in 2005 we don’t think black people are scary anymore.
* “Sporty Spice” will shed her Pumas and put on some high heels with pointy toes to smash the stereotype that all lesbians look like her.
* “Ginger Spice” will wear a dress on the tour made completely of melted down copies of all her solo albums that she wished someone had purchased. In a cross-promotion, AOL will include three copies with each “15493 FREE HOURS!” disc they mail out.
* “Posh Spice” will bring her husband, metrosexual soccer star David Beckham, on tour with her for fear that the press won’t show up at any of their gigs unless *someone* famous is there.
And finally …
* The new Spice Girls “best of” disc will be sold exclusively at the concert for $19.98, making it the most expensive 3-track CD ever produced.

When I was taking a video production course, I decided to do a short commercial project on the New York MTA. I was shooting video of subway trains in motion, and as one of them came to a stop, this conductor screamed at me for taking video. Little did I know that the video I was shooting could be used to aid terrorist scum. Anyway, things are a little bit more sane now, thankfully, and now those of us who are creative are allowed to take pictures on the subway and in stations again. That’s really good, because I think the subway is a fascinating place for photography — the people, the textures — it’s a shame you can’t capture the smell on film or compact flash card.

I’m so sick of DISGUSTING people. Our company moved to new office space, and there are contractors working to get the construction of the office space finished. Because of that, there seems to be a lot of traffic in and out of the men’s room. Today I went in there for the first time to use a stall, only to step on a pile of sunflower seed shells. This means that someone was sitting on the toilet just chomping away at sunflower seeds like the bathroom is the best place ever to eat. There are plenty of appropriate places to snack — the car, the bus, the office, at home, in a house, with a mouse, here and there, but not *anywhere*. It’s moments like this that I’m glad I’m not a filthy, skanky person.

Last night I took a walk down the Jersey City waterfront to take some nighttime pictures, and around the Colgate clock I found this area where the Statue of Liberty is blocked by a barbed wire fence. This scene really struck me as meaningful.

ARRRRRRRRRRGH.
Why the HELL do people posting things online ALWAYS seem to spell the word “losing” incorrectly? I’m SO SICK of reading people’s posts about “loosing weight” or “loosing bodyfat” or “loosing my appetite” or any other phrase that makes the writer look like an unintelligent sack of crap. GET A FREAKING DICTIONARY, MORON.

Although the shills in the mainstream media haven’t made as big a deal of it as they probably should have, someone threw an old Soviet grenade at President Bush yesterday when he was speaking in Georgia (the country, not the peach state). While Georgian security officials claim it’s not possible that the grenade could have detonated, it’s scary that it’s so easy to throw a grenade at a world leader (even one that no one likes).
My favorite part of the story is the AP’s half-assed reporting. The news item they posted this morning gives the story, and then includes this completely unrelated paragraph at the end:
“Many in the crowd were carrying plastic soda bottles, which they used to squirt water on each other to stave off the heat after hours of standing without shelter under the bright sun. There were many young people horsing around during the speeches — especially when the translation was muffled and the speech unintelligible — and some threw plastic bottles at one another for entertainment.”
What the *hell* is that about? They should just add a paragraph about chickens and Paula Abdul. I think it’s probably intended to portray the crowd, and the Georgian people, as uncivilized and rowdy. Total bullshit.

I know I’ve been lacking meaningful posts lately, but I’ve been updating my photography archives, so I wanted to post some of my more interesting recent photos. This photo was actually taken at sunset in the A&P parking lot. I’ve been noticing the silhouettes of the nearby buildings & power lines on a regular basis when I’m doing my grocery shopping, and had been meaning to photograph them for some time now.
